Banyan Tree is a collection of Sarah Kealamapuana Malina Ka'ilikea's songs. Her reminisces and sprightly voice are interwoven among the songs. wThis is the first time her work has been collected.

A composer, genealogist and Kaua'i's "Living Treasure," Sarah Ka'ilikea was born at Kipu, Kaua'i on October 7, 1911.WShe studied ancient religious practices, chant, hula, legends and language with Papa David K. Bray and with Tutu Mary Kawena Puku'i.WShe also learned many cultural practices and philosophy from her kupuna and their associates from both sides of her family.

Affectionally called "Aunti Sarah's Musicians," vocals are performed by Tazhi Pu'uhonua Tavares who has been the lead singer for her own group, Pu'uhonua, her sister Abra Kaulana Crisostomo, and their mother Lee Puakeala Mann. wVergel Jepas, the leader of the group Chant, and producer of the CD, complements the group.

Included in Banyan Tree is "Aloha Kaua'i," a composition by Maiki Aiu written in the 1950s as a thank you to Sarah's mother, Mrs. Leila Kaholokai Malina and the Malina family of Papalinahoa, Nawiliwili, Kaua'i.
